GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Feb. 22, 2017) - Dr. Sebastian von Münchow delivered the keynote speech at the 36th Session of the International Student Leadership Institute held at the Bad Neuenahr-Ahrweiler Youth Hostel, in Oberwesel, Germany, Feb. 20. 

This activity brought together students from European and U.S. Department of Defense Education Activity Europe (DoDEA Europe) high schools to discuss and practice methods associated with leadership skills.

“I was invited to talk about ‘Leadership and Global Institutions.' I was amazed by the enthusiasm of the students who showed great desire to join international politics one day.  Students seem to follow very closely the broader global debate on different styles of leadership, competing system models and other contemporary challenges such as climate change, migration and fiscal and trade policies,” said von Münchow.

According to von Münchow, ISLI promotes and raises the awareness of high school students into becoming leaders on the international stage.  ISIL events are designed around a learning model developed at The Ohio State University. 

“I found their focus very much like what we do at the Marshall Center except that it is specifically for high school students,” said von Münchow.  “It was also great to hear in conversations with European high school teachers who were military veterans that the Marshall Center was not only something they knew about but that it was known for its excellent reputation.”
