MOSTAR, Herzegovina-Neretva Canton of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina (May 29, 2018) – Dr. Sebastian von Münchow, professor at the College of International and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, gave lectures to about 100 students at the University of Mostar and Croatian Democratic Union's Political Academy here May 24 and 25.

Von Münchow said that the University of Mostar and the Croatian Democratic Union's Political Academy of Bosnia and Herzegovina invited him to hold extra-curricular lectures in Mostar, capital of Bosnia's Canton Herzegovina-Neretva.

“After the recent EU (European Union) summit in Sofia, students wanted to learn more about the pending application for membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina to the EU,” he said. “Hence, the lectures addressed the current state of play and the country’s task to find a sustainable domestic modus vivendi between its constituent peoples.”

Von Münchow also met with officials from the House of Peoples in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina parliament and the presidency of the state-level of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Hanns Seidel Foundation Office in Zagreb, Republic of Croatia.

Besides recent developments in Bosnia and Herzegovina, von Münchow said they also discussed further security-related education activities hosted by the Marshall Center.

“It was great to debate with the students Bosnia and Herzegovina’s attempts to get fully integrated into Euro-Atlantic institutions,” von Münchow said.  “One should note that Bosnia and Herzegovina is an active contributor to civilian stabilization missions and a respected troop contributor to the NATO engagement in Afghanistan.”
