Course Description
The NATO Writing Strategies Course is a fully online course for newly-appointed or future staff officers with a current STANAG 6001 writing level of 2+ or 3. The course is designed to develop their work-related writing skills and to familiarize them with strategies for producing written documents and correspondence IAW NATO conventions. The four-week/35-hour course includes online synchronous sessions of 1.5 hours twice per week and asynchronous assignments of approximately 4-6 hours. In addition, 1 hour per week of online conferencing is scheduled to provide participants with individualized feedback on their writing. In the four weeks, participants will write a summary, a formal e-mail, a point paper, an executive summary, and an integrative-skills opinion paragraph. The final week culminates in a portfolio assessment of their work.
The self-paced online English Language Training Enhancement Course2 (ELTEC2) is an important component and included in pre-course assignments. Participants work with authentic NATO documents as well as their own job-related written material to refine their writing through tailored lessons, peer-interaction, and continuous feedback.

Duration: 4 weeks
Eligibility: Newly-appointed or future staff officers with a current STANAG 6001 writing level of 2+ or 3 who have a job performance requirement to write NATO documents. The course is limited to 8 participants.
Registration Process: 12 weeks before the start of the course, invitations will be issued to appropriate Points of Contact. Applications from qualified candidates will be accepted on a first come, first served basis.
