GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (April 13, 2015) – Rebecca Zajdowicz, intelligence research specialist with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration, states that the illicit drug market generates $322 billion per year in her presentation Global Drug Trafficking Trends and Emerging Threats April 13 during the Countering Narcotics and Illicit Trafficking resident program at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies here.

In her presentation, she discussed a global overview of illicit drug trafficking trends, including current routes used by drug trafficking organizations to transport drugs and their concealment methods.

The lecture will detail the major source countries of illicit narcotics and identify the most significant DTOs operating across national borders. Transcontinental links between DTOs will be explored with a focus on routes from South America to Africa and Europe, and Asia to Europe.

The lecture will form the basis for seminar discussions by participants on effective measures to counter the transnational operations of DTOs. The lecture will also discuss ways that DTOs move financial proceeds internationally and conclude with an overview of emerging trends in illicit drug trafficking.

Professor Steve Monaco, CNIT course director, said that Day Three focuses on Drug Trafficking.

Angela Me, chief of the Statistics and Survey Section, Trends Monitoring and Analysis Program, United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, will give a presentation on A View of the World Drug Report.
