Garmish-Partenkirchen, Germany (March 3, 2016) - George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies'  Director retired Army Lt. Gen. Keith Dayton reads the Dr. Seuss' book "Oh, The Places You Will Go!" to a group of military family members at the Army Library Europe in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, March 3.

Dayton was the special-guest who read a story to pre-school students of military family members as part of the National Education Association's 19th annual Read Across America program.

This year-round program focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships and reading resources.

This is the first time a reading event was organized for military families assigned to the U.S. Army Garrison Bavaria in Garmisch Partenkirchen.

Dayton is a father to three children who also spent a part of their childhood in Germany during his 40-year, active-duty career.  He also has five grandchildren who he reads to when they visit him here.

"Story time was the best time of the day in my family.  Books will teach you anything you want to know.  I want you to know how important reading books are," Dayton said to the kids.
