U.S. Marine Corps Lt. Col. Daniel C. Love joined the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in June 2023 as a military professor in the College of International and Security Studies. He currently serves as the deputy course director for the Program on Countering Transnational Organized Crime and Program on Terrorism and Security Studies.
Love has served more than 16 years in the U.S. Marine Corps (USMC), holding roles as a logistics officer; a foreign security forces advisor to the Afghan Armed Forces; a Eurasia foreign area officer with Ukrainian language proficiency; and a Northeast Asia regional affairs officer.
His duty assignments have included service with Combat Logistics Battalion 31, 31st Marine Expeditionary Unit in Okinawa, Japan; Regimental Combat Team 5 in Helmand Province, Afghanistan; and the 5th Marine Regiment in Camp Pendleton, California. He also served with the Recruit Training Regiment at Marine Corps Recruit Depot San Diego, California; USMC foreign area officer attached to the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine; and Marine Aircraft Group 11 in Miramar, California.
Love’s USMC occupational specialties include Eurasia foreign area officer; Northeast Asia regional affairs officer; Ukrainian language specialist; foreign security forces advisor; expeditionary logistics instructor; and logistics officer. His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five awards) and the Humanitarian Service Medal.
