Colonel Joseph Paradis, US Air Force

Chief of Staff
George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies

Colonel Joseph Paradis became the Chief of Staff at the George C. Marshall Center for European Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany, in January 2025. In this capacity, he leads a team of over 40 joint military personnel and oversees the center’s support staff across the director’s group and four directorates.

Prior to joining the Marshall Center, Colonel Paradis served as the Director of Engineering, Logistics, and Acquisitions for the 480th Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance Wing, Joint Base Langley-Eustis, Virginia. Throughout his career, Colonel Paradis has held various key positions including Deputy Commander for the 497th ISR Group, where he managed ISR operations, supporting combatant and component commanders with world-class intelligence capabilities. He also previously served as Russian crypto linguist and intelligence analyst. 

Colonel Paradis received his commission in 2001 through the Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps after completing his studies at George Washington University. A seasoned intelligence officer, he has deployed three times in support of worldwide contingency and coalition operations, amassing over 24 years of combined Active Duty and Reserve service. His experience spans intelligence, operations, legislative affairs, strategic reviews, and executive support.

He holds a Master’s of Business Administration from the George Washington University and a Master’s of Science in Strategic Intelligence from the National Intelligence University. He has also completed various military education and training programs such as Joint Staff and Command Program, Air War College, and the Reserve Component National Security Course.

His awards and decorations include four Defense Meritorious Service Medals, two Meritorious Service Medals, a Joint Service Commendation Medal, and two Air force Commendation Medals.
