ASTANA (Sept. 2, 2016) - The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, a joint U.S.-German security education institute, is conducting a seminar for Kazakhstani governmental officials on cyber security best practices Sept. 1 and 2 in Astana. 

The seminar will provide Kazakhstani participants an overview of European and American approaches to cyber security strategy, policy, legal frameworks, and international cooperation.

“There are no borders in cyberspace,” said Philip Lark, director of the Marshall Center’s Program on Cyber Security Studies.  “Kazakhstan faces the same challenges as every other country around the world in protecting critical infrastructure and balancing security and openness online.” 

At this seminar, government officials will share their views on the local cyber security environment and will hear how other countries have addressed these global challenges—including with regards to terrorist financing, violent extremist messaging online and information sharing.

Up to 27 Kazakhstani plus six international Subject Matter Experts and Marshall Center faculty representing eight countries attended this seminar.

Countries represented were: Estonia, Georgia, Moldova, Poland, Germany, Austria, United States and Kazakhstan.
