Ukrainian Scholar Dr. Olga Reznikova Introduces National Resilience in a Changing Security Environment
On June 9, 2022, Dr. Olga Reznikova, a GCMC alumna and a member of the Ukrainian National Institute for Strategic Studies, virtually joined a group of faculty and staff at the GCMC Library to discuss her new book National Resilience in a Changing Security Environment. GCMC has supported Dr. Reznikova in translating the book to English so that it can be widely explored by international scholars as it moves the theory of Ukrainian resilience to praxis. Dr. Reznikova described a complex adaptive system that includes the State and the Society working in concert to counter Russia. She particularly noted that we cannot underestimate the role of leadership in national resilience – particularly in adapting and countering grave threats. In response to questions, she proposed that the future will be one of new, smaller, and effective alliances to counter the failure of existing international bodies to adequately deal with malevolent actors, particularly those with nuclear capabilities.
The GCMC is posting Dr. Reznikova’s book on our website as it is translated. The book, a complete Ukrainian version and a partial English version can be found on GCMC’s website at: Marshall Center Books. Click on the book’s photo and a partial English version is available. About each week, the next chapter will be posted. Chapter 1 will be posted Friday, June 10. Given the security situation in Ukraine, there may be weeks where a posting is not possible.
