KYIV (June 15, 2017) - Dr. Sven Gareis, deputy dean at the College of International and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, and Marshall Center professors, Dr. Pal Dunay and Dr. Sebastian von Muenchow shared their expertise on security sector capacity-building with Ukraine Armed Forces officers and government representatives at a two-day NATO Defense Education Enhancement Program.
The workshop was held in the compound of the National Defence Academy. Approximately 40 local representatives attended the event. Following the workshop, Marshall Center faculty remained in Kyiv to discuss future curricula covering the complex subject of oversight and democratic control.
DEEP is a vehicle for reform, providing tailored practical support to individual countries in developing and reforming their professional military education institutions. Through faculty development, curriculum development and peer-to-peer consultations, the DEEP Program fosters defense capacity building, cooperative capability development and standardization, and promotes interoperability of processes and methodologies to enhance democratic institutions.
