GARMISCH PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Nov. 30, 2016) – George C. Marshall European Center faculty Valbona Zeneli and James Howcroft were invited to speak at the second International Security Conference organized by the Croatian Statehood Foundation and the Konrad Adenauer Foundation in Croatia, in Zagreb Nov. 22.

Zeneli provided her expertise on a panel discussion addressing global economic challenges. Howcroft addressed best practices in combating terrorism, specifically information and intelligence sharing on a separate panel discussion.  According to Howcroft, Marshall Center faculty were the only foreign members who spoke on the panels.

Prior to their presentations, the faculty had an opportunity to meet with the new Defense Minister of Croatia, Damir Krsticevic, who is a 2015 graduate of the Marshall Center’s Program on Terrorism Security Studies.

“During the office call we discussed possible Marshall Center cooperation with Croatia to formulate an updated National Security Strategy as well as a Homeland Defense Strategy, which is a particular focus of Minister Krsticevic,” said Howcroft.

According to press statements, Croatia Prime Minister Andrej Plenković also spoke at the conference.   He said one of the priorities of his government was drafting a new National Security Strategy and the Law on Homeland Security System.
