BRATISLAVA (April 19, 2019) - George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies faculty traveled to Bratislava, April 15 to 17, to participate in GLOBSEC 2016 Global Security Forum, one of the largest annual security conferences in Europe.

On the occasion of this premier security forum Dr. Matt Rhodes and Dr. Sebastian von Munchow held a bilateral meeting with the Croatian President Kolinda Grabar-Kitarović. Von Munchow also met informally with the Georgian Defense Minister Tinatin Khidasheli and former U.S. Secretary of State Madeline Albright.  The purpose of the discussions was to renew and strengthen their relationship with the Marshall Center.

This year’s conference allowed participants to take part in a variety of expert discussions covering topical issues, such as the upcoming “NATO Summit”, the “Future of the European project”, the “Western Role in the Middle East Turmoil”, the “Russian Challenge” and “What to expect from the U.S. Foreign Policy”.  Dr. von Munchow spoke on a panel discussion Saturday night titled  “Follow the Money, Choke the Terrorism.”

“We spoke for more than two hours on the topic.  I shared my research that was recently published as a Security Insights paper concerning new approaches to investigate how terrorism is funded,” said von Munchow.

The other guest speakers on the panel included: Jean-Louis Bruguiere, the former leading French investigating magistrate in charge of counter-terrorism affairs; Chertoff Group’s Jonathan Paris and Financial Times Philip Stephens.
