GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Oct. 21, 2015) – “If you know how to handle coercive strategies, you can achieve a lot,” said German Air Force Lt. Col. Andreas Hellwig, deputy course director for the Program in Applied Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

Hellwig spoke about Coercive Strategies to 103 participants from 46 countries attending the Program on Applied Security Studies 15-10 here Oct.  20.

“If you are not able to handle coercive strategies, you can destroy a lot,” Hellwig continued.

Participants explored the concept of coercion, studied coercive diplomacy and strategies, and constructed and evaluated coercive strategies during Hellwig’s lecture.

PASS offers a rigorous, intellectually stimulating seven-week course for civilian government officials, members of security and military services and government academics.

PASS 15-10 started Sept. 29 and will end Nov. 13.
