Monika Wohlfeld, Ph.D., joined the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in December 2023 as a professor of Security Studies. In February 2025, she assumed the position of head of the Strategic Studies Department.

Prior to joining the Marshall Center, Wohlfeld served as the German chair for Peace Studies and Conflict Prevention at the Mediterranean Academy of Diplomatic Studies in Malta (2009 to 2023), where she taught contemporary security studies to young diplomats from the Mediterranean region.

She previously served as deputy director of the Conflict Prevention Center at the Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE), where she was responsible for OSCE field operations in 19 countries. She was also head of External Co-operation at the OSCE headquarters and senior diplomatic adviser to the OSCE secretary general. In addition, she worked as a senior research fellow at the Western European Union (now European Union) Institute for Security Studies in Paris.

Wohlfeld currently serves on the expert advisory board of the New Med Research Network and is a member of the OSCE Network of Think Tanks and Academic Institutions. She has been awarded both a NATO fellowship and a German Marshall Fund of the United States fellowship.
