Dr. Marc Ozawa is an associate professor of strategic security studies at the Marshall Center. His current research examines NATO and Europe’s relations with Russia, energy security, and Russian and Eurasian security affairs. 

He previously held teaching, research, and editorial positions at the NATO Defense College, University of Cambridge, Cambridge Energy Research Associates (currently S&P Global), and the Yale Journal of International Affairs. Dr. Ozawa has taught and supervised both undergraduate and graduate-level students in international relations, Russian and Eurasian studies, and the geopolitics of energy security. 

Dr. Ozawa has published works on European-Russian relations, trust and international relations, energy security, NATO and Russia, and Russia’s relations with its neighbors. His most recent book, Trust and European-Russian Energy Relations (Palgrave Macmillan, 2023), examines the impact of nonmaterial factors (relationships, culture, and history) on relations between Europe and Russia in the context of energy security. Additionally, he was the lead editor and coauthor of In Search of Good Energy Policy (Cambridge University Press, 2019), in which his chapter contributions covered Russian-Chinese energy relations and multidisciplinary approaches to energy policy research.

In addition to his university degree studies, Dr. Ozawa also conducted coursework at Lomonosov Moscow State University and North-Eastern Federal University in Yakutsk (formerly Yakutsk State University). He is the recipient of the Madingley Thesis Prize (University of Cambridge) and multiple research grant awards from the Cambridge Political Economy Society Trust, Norwegian Institute for Defence Studies, and the Yale Center for International Studies.
