Alumni Scholars Program

The Alumni Scholars Program is an individual, highly competitive scholarship initiative that affords Marshall Center alumni the opportunity to engage in in-depth research on a security-related subject at the Marshall Center, supported by a faculty mentor. The program offers a five-week, in-residence research program located in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, providing transportation, lodging, and meals. Scholars are granted the opportunity to disseminate their research findings, contribute to resident courses and outreach events, and deliver presentations to the faculty. The program spans from January to September of a given calendar year, with application solicitations taking place in the preceding summer. Importantly, the Alumni Scholars Program is conducted exclusively in the English language.

Eligibility

Graduates of Marshall Center resident programs meeting qualifying criteria are eligible to apply for the Alumni Scholars Program. Current government employment is not a prerequisite for application. This program is highly competitive, with typically hundreds of applicants competing for approximately fifteen available scholarships each year. Application invitations are extended directly to alumni via email during the summer. To ensure you receive an invitation to apply, please confirm we have your correct email contact. Scholarships are granted based on recommendations from a Faculty Review Committee, which prioritizes proposals aligned with the strategic guidance and priorities of the Marshall Center's U.S. and German stakeholders.
