Dr. Thomas Matyók joined the Marshall Center in June 2023 as a Professor of Human Security/WPS. In addition to his position at the Marshall Center, Dr. Matyók is Director of the Joint Civil-Military Interaction (JCMI) Research and Education Network, where he interacts with national and international Civil-Military leaders regarding the interaction, interoperability, and integration of crisis response activities. In addition, Dr. Matyók is a Senior Lecturer in International Security Studies at Middle Georgia State University (USA).

Dr. Matyók has taught Conflict Analysis and Resolution at universities in the United States and Germany and has taught military peace leadership in Professional Military Education settings at Army and Air Force senior service colleges, as well as at the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School. Prior to academia, Dr. Matyók was a career Infantry officer with assignments throughout the United States and Europe.

Dr. Matyók was a Fulbright Scholar at the University of Konstanz in Southern Germany, a Distinguished Visiting Professor at the U.S. Army War College, and a visiting research professor at the U.S. Army Peacekeeping and Stability Operations Institute (PKSOI). His research and outreach responsibilities at PKSOI were in the areas of strategic policy and securing U.S. interests in an era of persistent irregular and hybrid conflict. Dr. Matyók served as executive director of the U.S. Air Force Negotiation Center (AFNC), where he researched the role of negotiation in the military. Most recently, Dr. Matyók taught Military Peace Leadership at the Ivan Chernyakhovsky National Defense University of Ukraine.

Dr. Matyók has written and presented extensively on conflict analysis and resolution as part of Civil-Military Interaction. His research focuses on peace and stability operations, changing global antagonisms, military peace leadership, and Civil-Military Interaction in hybrid conflicts and asymmetric warfare.
