ASHGABAT, Turkmenistan (Oct. 7, 2014) – The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies co-organized a four-day workshop on Disaster Preparedness and Response with the Civil Military Emergency Preparedness Program of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Aug. 25 to 28 here.

A group of 10 crisis management experts from the Turkmen Ministry of Defense, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and local crisis management authorities from Ashgabat and other provinces of Turkmenistan attended the workshop. The workshop enabled open discussions among all participants and with the organizing and presenting staffs.

By looking at examples and lessons learned from a broad variety of natural disasters, crisis management planning and continuity of operations in complex emergency situation were discussed.

At the end of the workshop, the U.S. Ambassador to Turkmenistan Laura Kennedy thanked the participants for their engagement and openness.
