GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany (Nov. 4, 2015) – The Alumni Program’s Scholarship Committee at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies announced the 2016 scholars on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

The 2016 Scholars are:& Agnieszka Wierzbicka, from Poland, who attended the Program on Applied Security Studies 11-10, researching European Comparative Study on Public-Private Partnership in Cyber Security; Bassem Shaaban, from Lebanon, who attended Security Sector Capacity Building 15-02, researching The Displaced Syrian Security Challenge in Lebanon; and,  Rosana Bulancea, from Romania, who attended PASS 12-09, researching Joint Investigation Teams and Perspectives on using them as tools in Combating Illegal Migration

“We received 100 applications this year,” said Dean Reed, Marshall Center Alumni Programs director. “This was far beyond our expectations, but certainly, reinforced our need for the program.”

Reed added that since the committee received so many applications, an additional six proposals were tentatively accepted pending funding.

These tentative scholarships were offered to:  Iryna Lysychkina, from Ukraine, who attended PASS Capacity Building 13-11; Irina Modnikova, from Russia, who attended Executive Program 99-4 and the Senior Executive Seminar 04-6; Mariusz Fryc, from Poland, who attended Leaders' Program in Advanced Security Studies  007-1; Besa Kabashi, from Kosovo, Security, Stability, Transition, and Reconstruction 12-02; Lars Scraeyen, from Belgium, who attended PTSS 13-07; Saliou Faye, from Senegal, who attended PTSS 10-3.

Applications for 2017 scholarships will be announced next summer, Reed said.
