Colonel Frank Hagemann, Ph.D., German Army

Colonel Dr. Frank Hagemann joined the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in March 2022. He is the Commander of the German Element of GCMC as the Senior National Representative, and serves as Deputy Dean, Research. 

Prior to joining the Marshall Center, Col. Dr. Hagemann served as the Head of the Education Department at the Bundeswehr Center for Military History and Social Science in Potsdam.

Col. Dr. Hagemann is a graduate of the German Armed Forces General Staff (GS) International Course in Hamburg and has held various leadership, staff and academic positions in the German Armed Forces, including a deployment as a company commander in Kosovo (KFOR). He has, among other positions, been an Assistant Military Representative to the Military Committees in Brussels, where he gained in-depth experience with regard to the military-political environment of the European Union and NATO. He has also had two assignments to the German Ministry of Defense in Bonn and Berlin.

Col. Dr. Hagemann’s areas of expertise include European Security and Defense Policy, The Transatlantic Relationship and German Military History. He holds a Ph.D. in Modern History from the University of Potsdam, a Master’s Degree in Security Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, CA, and an M.A. in History and Social Science from the Bundeswehr University in Hamburg.
