Col. William S. McNicol, US Army
Colonel William S. McNicol is a Eurasian Foreign Area Officer and Special Forces Officer. He currently serves as the Chief of Staff and Army Senior Service Advisor at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.
Prior to joining the Marshall Center, COL McNicol served as the Department Chief of the Strategic/Nuclear Inspection Department, Army Senior Service Advisor, and Senior Foreign Area Officer for the Defense Threat Reduction Agency at Ft. Belvoir. Throughout his career, he has held various key positions, including Chief of the Security Cooperation Office in Pakistan, Joint Staff Policy Officer focusing on Europe/NATO/Russia affairs, and Chief of the Office of Defense Cooperation at the U.S. Embassy in Tallinn, Estonia. He has also served as a Treaty Inspector/Escort Verification Officer in Europe and deployed to countries such as Iraq and Haiti.
COL McNicol holds Master’s in Eurasian Studies from the Naval Postgraduate School and a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal Justice from Allentown College of St. Francis DeSales. He has also completed various military education and training programs, such as the Russian Language Course at the Defense Language Institute, Air Assault School, Ranger School, and the Special Forces Qualification Course.
COL McNicol has been honored with several awards and decorations for his service, including the Defense Superior Service Medal, Bronze Service Medals, and Meritorious Service Medals.
