30th Anniversary

The George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies, founded on June 5, 1993, is a renowned international security and defense studies institute. A bilateral partnership between the U.S. and Germany, it is a lasting cooperation that promotes dialogue and understanding among the nations of North America, Europe and Eurasia.

In 2023, the Marshall Center marks its 30th anniversary, re-emphasizing its commitment to carrying Marshall’s vision, an enduring legacy that continues through the security education initiatives of the Center.

Thirty years ago, the Marshall Center started as a strong German-American partnership--a center for security studies that could support the challenging transformation of the former communist states and societies into democratic and well-governed countries that would eventually integrate into Western security structures, such as NATO and the EU. Today, thanks to the hard work and dedication of our staff, alumni and friends, we continue our namesake's vision by educating, engaging and empowering those who share our values and work together to build a better future with prosperity and opportunity for all.
