

Dr. Gregory Gleason
Gregory Gleason ist Dozent für Sicherheitspolitik und Leiter des Länderprogramms für die Region Zentralasien am George C. Marshall Center, dem Europäischen Institut für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik.
Bevor er ans Marshall Center kam, unterrichtete Dr. Gleason Internationale Beziehungen an der State University of New York und später an der University of Miami, sowie Politikwissenschaft, Staatsverwaltung und Wirtschaftswissenschaften an der University of New Mexico. Sein Hauptinteresse galt den zwischenstaatlichen Beziehungen und der politischen Modernisierung, dabei wiederum besonders mit Blick auf die Länder Eurasiens.
Dr. Gleason hat zahlreiche Artikel, z.T. für Fachzeitschriften, und Bücher zu internationalen Beziehungen und politischer Entwicklung veröffentlicht, darunter "Federalism and Nationalism: the Struggle for Republican Rights in the USSR" (1991), "Central Asian States: Discovering Independence" (1997) und "Markets and Politics in Central Asia" (2003). In seiner wissenschaftlichen Tätigkeit wurde er von der National Science Foundation, der National Academy of Sciences und weiteren öffentlichen und privaten Stiftungen unterstützt. Nach 25 Jahren an der University of New Mexico ging Gleason als Emeritus in den Ruhestand.
Neben seiner akademischen Tätigkeit hat sich Dr. Gleason immer sehr für die praktische Anwendung interessiert und war verschiedentlich als Analytiker, Berater und Manager für diverse nationale und internationale Organisationen tätig, darunter für das Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory, die Sandia National Laboratories, die Asiatische Entwicklungsbank, USAID, das US-Außenministerium und andere Organisationen. 1993 bis 1995 war er Leiter des ersten USAID-Programms zum Thema Rechts- und Regierungsreform in Zentralasien. 1996 arbeitete er an einem USAID-Programm zu Marktreform und Privatisierung in Kasachstan.
1997 bis 1998 initiierte Dr. Gleason ein Programm der Asiatischen Entwicklungsbank zum Thema regionale wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit in Zentralasien. 1998 bis 2000 leitete er das Universitäts-Partnerschaftsprogramm zwischen der University of New Mexico und der Staatlichen Technischen Universität des Uralgebiets, unterstützt durch die Bemühungen des US-Energieministeriums um nukleare Nichtverbreitung, und von 1999 bis 2001 die vom US-Außenministerium geförderte Partnerschaft zwischen der University of New Mexico und verschiedenen kasachischen Universitäten. Von 2005 bis 2007 arbeitete er mit der Eurasian National University in Astana zusammen, um ein neues akademisches Lehrangebot zu den Themen Umweltmanagement und Ingenieurwesen zu entwickeln, das von der kasachischen und der amerikanischen Regierung gefördert wurde.
Dr. Gleason hat zwei Bachelorabschlüsse, in Philosophie und Sprachwissenschaft, von der University of California in Irvine sowie einen Mastertitel in Russischer Sprachwissenschaft und einen Doktortitel in Politikwissenschaft, beide von der University of California in Davis.
