The intent of the Army and Air Force Fellows Program is to provide a regionally focused, professional military experience at the senior service school level. Through coursework, research and writing, and interaction with participants in Marshall Center resident programs, Fellows will enhance their general understanding of international and security affairs, while developing specialty knowledge in European and Eurasian security matters. Graduates will be particularly well equipped to serve either in the region or as a senior staff officer dealing with regional issues.
Responsibilities:
The Dean serves as official reporting official for all Fellows. Oversight of the Fellows Program is the responsibility of the Director, Fellows Program. The Fellows Program Director will work with Fellows to select a topic and identify a faculty member to serve as mentor in completion of the required Advanced Research Project (ARP - see below).
Program Content:
Although programs for individual Fellows may vary slightly based on factors such as reporting date, departure date, expertise, career field, etc., as a general matter each Fellow will accomplish the following.
Complete the Program in Advanced Security Studies (PASS), complying with all requirements thereof.
Complete two additional elective seminars during a subsequent PASS or teach one elective.
Attend the Program in Terrorism and Security Studies, complying with all requirements thereof.
Complete an Advanced Research Project of professional relevance to the Fellow and which is on a topic within the subject matter competency of the Marshall Center. The precise topic and parameters of the project will be agreed upon between the Fellow and the Fellows Program Director, and approved by the Dean. The final paper will demonstrate substantial effort and represent an original contribution to the field.
Attend two courses at the NATO School (Oberammergau), including the NATO Staff Officers Course.
In addition to these required activities, Fellows may take available language courses, participate in Marshall Center-hosted conferences germane to ARP, and/or, depending on rotation dates, teach a core seminar in the summer Program in Advanced Security Studies offering.
