September 10, 2008
The Serbian Alumni Association conducted their 10th Security and Society Forum, entitled “European Security and Defense Policy,” at the National Assembly House Sept. 10.
State Secretary Dr. Zoran Jeftic opened the forum, attended by more than 160 Marshall Center alumni and other security officials.
The first of the forum’s two panels was on European security system building. The keynote speaker, Marshall Center professor Dr. Matt Rhodes, spoke about European defense policy and Dr. Momcilo Milinovic, a professor at the University of Belgrade, spoke about new challenges and security risks.
The second panel, on Serbian security system transformation, included four speakers who covered the questions of Serbian Euro-Atlantic integration, emergency system building in Serbia, integrated security systems in the oil industry and new developments in application software for security professionals.
Both sessions were followed by questions and lively discussion with the panelists.
The following day Dr. Rhodes lectured on Euro-Atlantic integration in southeast Europe at the Serbian Armed Forces Central Club in Belgrade. Eighty-seven officers from the Ministry of Defense’s National Defense School and Institute for Strategic Studies attended the lecture, the seventh at the school as part of ongoing cooperation between the Marshall Center and the NDS.
