Mr. Alexander Borissovitch Garin Professor of National Security Strategy College of International and Security Studies
Mr. Alexander Garin was born in Leningrad, Russia. He has a degree in mathematics from Leningrad State University and
has completed course work and a dissertation for Kandidat Philosophical Sciences at the Leningrad Academy of Sciences.
Mr. Garin is a doctoral candidate in political philosophy at Munich University. He immigrated to Austria in 1978 and moved to Germany
in 1979.
Mr. Garin originally joined the Marshall Center as a faculty member of the U.S. Army Russian Institute, the precursor of the
Marshall Center's former Institute for Eurasian Studies. In addition to his work at the Marshall Center, from 1988 to 1989 Mr. Garin
was an adjunct professor of strategy for the Department of Strategy at the U.S. Naval War College in Newport, Rhode Island.
Prior to joining the Marshall Center Mr. Garin taught mathematics in Leningrad. His other positions in Leningrad included researcher
in the Information Department of the Scientific-Technical Research Center and senior instructor in the Philosophical Department of
the Academy of Sciences.
