Marshall Center alumni from Montenegro held their first alumni security roundtable, on security strategy in small states, March 4 in Podgorica. The 27 participants, including 13 alumni, represented the ministries of Defense and Interior, Parliament, Police, the political science faculty of the University of Montenegro and the media. Marshall Center professor Dr. Dragan Lozancic (SES 1998-2), on secondment from the Croatian Ministry of Defense, was the roundtable’s featured speaker. Croatian Ambassador to Montenegro and Marshall Center alumnus Petar Turcinovic (SES 2006-3) also attended. Mr. Mehmedin Tahirovic (EPASS 2006-1, SES 2006-6) moderated the event and led the discussion on the possibility of forming an alumni association in Montenegro.
This event was followed by a NATO seminar organized by the Marshall Center in conjunction with the U.S. Embassy. The seminar presented a strategic overview of NATO policies of particular relevance to Montenegro and gave officials from a number of ministries the opportunity to discuss the process and progress of Euro-Atlantic integration. The two-day event was opened by the Montenegrin Minister of Defense and the U.S. and German ambassadors to Montenegro.
The audience of security professionals follows the discussion on security strategy in small states at the Montenegrin alumni’s first alumni roundtable.
