Macedonian Alumni hold roundtable on NATO membership

The Macedonian Alumni Association held a roundtable entitled “Republic of Macedonia in Expectation of NATO Membership Invitation” Dec. 12, 2007 at Army House in Skopje. The audience of more than 60 included 34 alumni and officials from government ministries, NGOs, the US and German embassies and the media.
Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Zoran Petrov opened the roundtable and Marshall Center graduate Marko Spirovski, Head, NATO Integration Unit, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, gave a presentation entitled “Republic of Macedonia: Last Mile on Way to NATO,” which outlined the remaining priorities for NATO membership as well as providing a background to Macedonia’s past international cooperation. Marshall Center Professor Fritz Rademacher gave a presentation entitled “NATO preparing for Bucharest.” Mr. Rademacher discussed the Alliance’s agenda in the run-up to the Bucharest Summit, including NATO’s open door policy, and provided a generic overview of the accession process.
Prior to the roundtable the alumni association held their Annual General Meeting, during which an overview of the year’s activities and plans for future events were discussed.
