On Dec. 5, the Serbian Alumni Association hosted a security forum, entitled “Serbia and NATO” at the City Assembly of Belgrade. More than 100 security professionals attended the forum which included alumni from Serbia as well as alumni representatives serving in Serbia, officials from government ministries, Defense Attachés serving in Belgrade, NGOs, military cadets, university faculty and students, representatives from commercial companies and media.
The forum was divided into two panels: Serbia’s Security Environment and Serbia and Integration Challenges. Marshall Center alumnus, State Secretary for Defense, Dr. Zoran Jeftic, opened the forum and outlined Serbia’s participation in the Partnership for Peace program. Marshall Center professor, Dr. Dragan Lozancic, lectured on Croatia’s road to NATO membership. Other presenters included Dr. Marko Kovacevic, Director, Atlantic Council of Serbia; Dr. Zeljko Ivanis, Professor, Faculty of Security, University of Belgrade; alumnus Col. Dejan Jankovic, Ministry of Defense and Dr. Momcilo Milinovic, Professor, Faculty of Mechanical Engineering, University of Belgrade. The forum, which is part of their ‘Security and Society Forum’ series was the ninth to be presented by the Serbian Alumni Association.
The following day as part of an ongoing guest lecture series at the National Defense School, Dr. Lozancic gave a lecture on “Security Strategy in a Small State” to more than 80 officers, faculty and researchers.
