The George C. Marshall Center director, Dr. John Rose, visited Latvian officials at the Latvia Ministries of Defense, Foreign Affairs and Interior last week to discuss the Center’s programs. The visit occurred just prior to the Baltic nation’s Independence Day holiday, providing the opportunity to get feedback about the Center from a key partner nation that has witnessed profound transformation during the last decade.
Dr. Rose also met with German Ambassador to Latvia Eberhard Schuppius and U.S. Ambassador to Latvia Catherine Todd Bailey. Ambassador Bailey hosted a reception on November 13 for some of the 186 Latvian Marshall Center alumni.
Marshall Center Professor Col. James Howcroft also travelled with Dr. Rose and presented a lecture, “Lessons to Learn from Stability Operations in Afghanistan and Iraq,” to 65 military officers at the Latvian Joint Staff Headquarters on November 16. Latvia has contributed significantly to stability operations in recent years, with many Marshall Center alumni having taken part.
