On 20 June a Marshall Center graduate-led Security Cooperation Roundtable took place in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia. The topic was “Crisis Management and Inter-agency Coordination.” The roundtable was attended by approximately fifty experts from several different ministries and agencies in the security sector, including about thirty five Marshall Center alumni. Opening remarks were made by the German Defense Attaché LTC Reinhard Riedel, and the U.S. Defense Attaché LTC Alan Hester. Dr. Nika Chitadze (LC 1999-2), Dean of the Faculty of Law at the Tbilisi Academy of Economy and Law; and President of the George C. Marshall Alumni Union – Georgia, organized the roundtable. Marshall Center professor John Kriendler gave the keynote address, “NATO Crisis Management: A Key Aspect of Transformation.” Col James Howcroft, USMC, made a presentation entitled “U.S. Marine Corps Rapid Response Planning Process: Lessons Learned.” Georgian speakers included Dr. David Darchiashvili (EP 2001-1), Executive Director of the Open Society - Georgia Foundation, who spoke on “Security Sector Reform and Civil-Military Relations before and after Revolution;” and Dr. Chitadze, whose topic was “GUAM and New Geopolitical Realities.”
