On 15 June 2006 a Marshall Center graduate-led Security Cooperation Roundtable took place in Yerevan, Republic of Armenia. Opening remarks were made by U.S. Ambassador John Evans, German Ambassador Dr. Heike Renate Peitsch, and Dr. Arman Kirakosyan, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, Republic of Armenia. The roundtable was organized and moderated by Dr. Gayane Novikova (EP 2002-4, SES 2003-3), President of the Marshall Center Alumni Association in Armenia, and Director General, Spectrum Center for Strategic Analysis. Also in attendance was MG Hayk Kotanjian (SES 1998-2), Advisor on Defense and Security Policy to the Minister of Defense, and President, Armenian Institute for National Security Studies. Marshall Center professor Col James Howcroft, USMC, made a presentation on “National and Operational Planning Considerations for Peacekeeping Operations. Armenian speakers included Mr. Armen Yedigarian (SES 2005-5), Director of the Arms Control and International Security Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs; and MAJ Artak Tonoyan, Commander of Armenia’s Peacekeeping Battalion, MoD. Following the presentations a roundtable discussion was led by LTC Tigran Hovhannisyan (EP 1997-1). The roundtable was attended by approximately fifty experts from several different ministries and agencies in the security sector, including about thirty Marshall Center alumni.
