Kosovo/UN graduates hold their first security roundtable

The Marshall Center Alumni Association of Kosovo, in cooperation with the Marshall Center and the United States Office Pristina (USOP), held its first alumni security cooperation roundtable, entitled “Regional Cooperation and Leadership in Combating Organized Crime and Terrorism,” in Pristina. Col. (ret.) Nick Pratt, Director of the Marshall Center’s Program on Terrorism and Security Studies, presented "Modern Terrorism’s Trends: Focus on Al-Qa’ida." In addition, Ambassador Istvan Gyarmati, Geneva Center for Democratic Control of the Armed Forces, spoke on "Security Issues in Kosovo and its Future Challenges" and Marshall Center graduate (SES 05-3) BG Darren Owens, Commander, Task Force Falcon, KFOR, presented "KFOR Peace Enforcement and the Role of Leadership in Security." Prime Minister Agim Ceku (SES 2000-4) and Chief of Mission, USOP, Mr. Philip Goldberg, opened the Conference. Over 100 security specialists attended, including approximately 40 Marshall Center graduates from Kosovo and Estonia. Ministries and agencies represented included Parliament, the Kosovo Police Service (KPS), the Kosovo Protection Corps (KPC), the newly-formed Ministry of Interior, and the Border Service. In addition participants included representatives of UNMIK, KFOR, university students and local press. Interpretation was provided both in Albanian and Serbian.
