Dr. Elena Kovalova Dozentin für nationale Sicherheitsstudien Institut für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik
Elena Kovalova ist Dozentin für nationale Sicherheitsstudien am Fachbereich Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik am George C. Marshall Center, Europäisches Institut für Sicherheitspolitische Studien. Dr. Kovalova unterrichtet im Forum für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik. Sie hält Vorträge zu den Themen Demokratisierung, grenzüberschreitendes Verbrechen und Korruption sowie der Zusammenarbeit im sicherheitspolitischen Bereich zwischen Russland und seinen Nachbarstaaten. Dr. Kovalova hält regelmäßig Vorträge als Gastdozentin an der NATO-Schule in Oberammergau.
Bevor sie ans Marshall Center kam, war Dr. Kovalova die Leiterin der Abteilung Außenpolitik am Nationalen Institut für Strategische Studien in der Ukraine.
Dr. Kovalova hat drei Universitätsabschlüsse in direkt miteinander verwandten Disziplinen: Politikwissenschaft (Doktor der Politikwissenschaften vom Institut für Politik und Internationale Beziehungen, Ukraine), Europastudien (Central European University, Tschechische Republik) und Politikgeschichte (Promotion, Nationale Universität Kiew, Ukraine). Sie ist Absolventin des Forums für Führungskräfte am Marshall Center sowie der NATO-Schule in Oberammergau.
Von 1993-1994 war Dr. Kovalova Gaststipendiatin an der Universität Oxford. Darüber hinaus war sie Fulbright Senior Scholar-Stipendiatin (Zentrum für Russland- und Osteuropastudien, Universität Kansas, 2001-02) und Gaststipendiatin der British Academy (Universität Oxford, 1997).
In den vergangenen 15 Jahren war sie Leiterin von Forschungsgruppen oder forschte bei diversen internationalen Forschungsprojekten auf den Gebieten Übergangspolitik, internationale Angelegenheiten und Sicherheitsstudien. Sie arbeitet zusammen mit Kollegen der Johns Hopkins Universität, der Universität Colorado, der Universität Bristol, der Universität Westengland, der Universität Kansas, der Freien Universität Berlin, der Central European University, der Staatlichen Universität Moskau, der Universität Moldau und andern Bildungseinrichtungen.
Dr. Kovalova war durch ihre Teilnahme am Projekt zur Politischen Bildung der Universität Yale direkt in die Umstrukturierung der Höheren Bildung in der post-kommunistischen Welt involviert. Seit 2003 stellt sie ihr Fachwissen Programmen der Europäischen Kommission wie TACIS oder TEMPUS zur Verfügung. Seit 2006 nimmt Dr. Kovalova an den Projekten zur Reform der politisch-militärischen Bildung in Übergangsstaaten des Konsortiums Partnerschaft für den Frieden der Verteidigungsakademien und Institute für Sicherheitsstudien teil.
Dr. Kovalova ist Mitglied der Amerikanischen Gesellschaft für Politikwissenschaften, der Internationalen Gesellschaft für Politikwissenschaften, dem Internationalen Rat für Mittel- und Osteuropastudien und der Internationalen Gesellschaft für das Studium Europäischer Ideen. Sie ist Autorin/Lektorin von drei Büchern/Monografien sowie mehr als 40 Artikeln zu den Themen internationale Beziehungen, Europastudien und Sicherheitsstudien. Ihre Publikationen erschienen in Österreich, England, Deutschland, Italien, Moldau, Russland, der Ukraine und den Vereinigten Staaten.
