Dr. Sharyl Cross Dozentin für nationale Sicherheitsstudien Institut für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik
Sharyl Cross ist Dozentin für nationale Sicherheitsstudien am Institut für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik des George C. Marshall Europäischen Zentrums für Sicherheitsstudien. Zudem leitet sie ein Projekt des Marshall Centers zur Bekämpfung der ideologischen Unterstützung des Terrorismus. Dr. Cross lehrt im Rahmen des Forums Terrorismus und Sicherheit, des Seminars für Höhere Führungskräfte und des Forums für Sicherheits- und Verteidigungspolitik und bietet ein Wahlpflichtseminar zu Sicherheitsfragen in Bezug auf die Vereinigten Staaten und Russland/Eurasien an.
Vor ihrer Tätigkeit für das Marshall Center lehrte Dr. Cross als Gastdozentin (Visiting Distinguished Professor) Politikwissenschaft an der United States Air Force Academy. Sie ist ordentliche Professorin und ehemalige Vorsitzende der Fakultät für Politikwissenschaft an der San Jose State University, die Teil der California State University ist. Dr. Cross hält in regelmäßigen Abständen Vorträge an der NATO-Schule in Oberammergau sowie an zahlreichen weiteren akademischen und politischen Institutionen der Staatengemeinschaft.
Sie erwarb ihren Doktor (Ph D) der Politikwissenschaft mit Schwerpunkt auf internationalen Beziehungen, komparativer Politik und amerikanischer Außen- und Sicherheitspolitik an der University of California, Los Angeles. Von 1884-1987 arbeitete sie als Gastwissenschaftlerin und Beraterin für die RAND Corporation in Santa Monica, Kalifornien und absolvierte in dieser Zeit ein Graduiertenstudium mit Thema Sowjetunion/Russland. Dr. Cross stammt ursprünglich aus Arizona und schloss 1983 mit Auszeichnung ihr Studium der Politikwissenschaft an der Universität Arizona ab (Phi Beta Kappa).
Von 1991-1992 war Dr. Cross Post-Doctoral Fellow an der Hoover Institution der Stanford University. Von 1992-1994 diente sie als Visiting Associate Professor im Fach transregionale Studien am United States Air War College, Luftwaffenstützpunkt Maxwell.
1999 erhielt sie ein Stipendium als Fulbright Senior Scholar zur Unterstützung ihrer Zusammenarbeit als Visiting Research Scholar und Professorin am Institut für USA- und Kanadastudien der Russischen Akademie der Wissenschaften und der Staatlichen Moskauer Universität für internationale Beziehungen des Außenministeriums der Russischen Föderation (MGIMO). In Zusammenarbeit mit Fakultätsangehörigen der MGIMO und der Fakultät der Staatlichen Universität St. Petersburg für internationale Beziehungen entwickelte Dr. Cross ein Fernstudienprojekt, das in Chronicle of Higher Education vorgestellt wurde.
Sie erhielt drei (2001, 2004, 2006-2007) Postdoctoral-Stipendien des Kennan Institute for Advanced Russian Studies des Woodrow Wilson International Center for Scholars in Washington D.C. 2005 erhielt sie eine Einladung als Gastdozentin für transatlantische Beziehungen am Institut für Politikwissenschaften/Sciences Po in Lille, Frankreich.
Dr. Cross erhielt zudem zur Unterstützung ihrer Forschungsarbeit Stipendien des International Research and Exchanges Board des amerikanischen Außenministeriums (Title VIII), des Verteidigungsministeriums, der California State University, des NATO-EAPR, des USAF Institute for National Security Studies, des Direktors des Marshall Centers, der American Association for University Women und des Institute for Global Conflict and Cooperation der University of California, Sie hat Verbindungsarbeit für mehrere akademische Programme und Programme für Sicherheitsstudien geleistet sowie als Beraterin fungiert (Fulbright Senior Specialist, Cyber Security/Lomonosov Moscow State University, European Security/Odessa National University, US National Security Dialogue for Senior Leaders Silicon Valley, um nur einige zu nennen). Dr. Cross hat zudem das amerikanische Außenministerium, das Büro des Verteidigungsministers und das United States European Command zu Fragen im Zusammenhang mit Terrorismus und anderen internationalen Sicherheitsfragen beraten.
Dr. Cross hat gemeinsam mit Spezialisten aus Russland und China an Büchern zu aktuellen internationalen Sicherheitsfragen mitgewirkt und Artikel in führenden akademischen Fachzeitschriften und Büchern in mehreren Ländern publiziert.
