March seminar examines WMD, other weapons threats

GARMISCH-PARTENKIRCHEN, Germany -- The Seminar on Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction/Terrorism started at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies here March 5 with 47 participants from 28 countries around the globe.

Conducted in alliance with the Defense Threat Reduction Agency and the U.S. Strategic Command Center for Combating Weapons of Mass Destruction, the seminar takes a “comprehensive look at the pillars of combating weapons of mass destruction and the challenges posed by chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear elements.” The course is presented to both civilian and military personnel in mid- and upper level positions from all over the world.

The two-week seminar examines best practices for ensuring that participating nations have the fundamental knowledge to adhere to international agreements related to chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear materials; to prevent unsanctioned transfer of WMD materials; and to prepare for management of the consequences of a WMD event.

The seminar finishes March 15. For more information about the course, visit our web page on the topic. A brochure describing the course can be found here.
