Serbian alumni hold roundtable to discuss Afghanistan

On Sep 24 alumni gathered for their second roundtable this year to hear a panel discussion entitled, “Current Situation in Afghanistan.” The panel included three topics: warfare, economy and politics and was led by Prof. James Wither, Dr. Jack Treddenick and Dr. Ann Phillips respectively.

Association General Secretary LTC Milan Tepsic (LC2002-3, EPASS 2007-1) was the roundtable's chief organizer and served as the master of ceremonies for the event. The participants listened to the professors give an overview of the current problems and challenges in Afghanistan, followed by questions and discussions.

The roundtable, held at the Hotel Zira, Belgrade, included 36 alumni and invited guests as well as US Embassy BAO, MAJ Devin Braun and alumni from Albania and Spain. The alumni took the opportunity to utilize the roundtable event to distribute a number of Marshall Center Occasional Papers which have been translated by the association into Serbian.

The event was held in conjunction with a two-day seminar on stability operations which was conducted by the Marshall Center and saw 22 participants from MOD, MOI, MFA and the Parliament attend.

The following day Prof. Wither gave a lecture to approximately 70 students and staff of the National Defense School on “New Trends in Warfare.” State Secretary and MC alumnus, Dr. Zoran Jeftic, was also in attendance.
