Dr. John Reppert became dean of the College of International and Security Studies at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in April 2010. Dr. Reppert was previously dean at the Marshall Center from 2003-2006.
Prior to his return to the Marshall Center, Dr. Reppert was vice-president of the Academy of Senior Professionals at Eckerd College, St. Petersburg, Fla. He is also a consultant to defense agencies and the Joint Staff and has, since his previous tour at the Marshall Center, made academic presentations in St. Petersburg, Russia; Amman, Jordan; and Washington D.C.
From October 1998 – August 2003, Dr. Reppert was the executive director for research at the Belfer Center for Science and International Affairs (BCSIA) at the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Dr. Reppert holds Bachelor of Arts and Master of Science degrees in journalism from Kansas State University; a Master of Arts degree in Soviet area studies from the University of Kansas; and a Ph.D. in international relations from The George Washington University, Washington, D.C. He is a graduate of the Army War College, the Armed Forces Staff College, the U.S. Army Russian Institute, and the U.S. Army Signal Corps Officer Advanced Course; and an honor graduate of the U.S. Naval War College. He was also an Army Post-Doctorate Fellow of the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
Dr. Reppert has been director of instruction, U.S. Army Institute for Advanced Russian and East European Studies, Garmisch, Germany; course director, department of social sciences, U.S. Military Academy, West Point, N.Y.; and director Soviet operations, Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pa. During six years of assignment in Moscow, he created and served as director of the Moscow branch of the University of Maryland overseas program.
From 1966-1998, Dr. Reppert served in the U. S. Army, retiring as a brigadier general. His assignments include Vietnam, Germany, Korea, Moscow, and various locations throughout the U.S.; and among other jobs, he served as a foreign area officer specializing in Russian and East European studies; taught at West Point; and served as director, On-Site Inspection Agency (OSIA). Dr. Reppert is a member of the Council on Foreign Relations and a former member of the International Institute of Strategic Studies. He served as a member of the Distinguished Visitors Board at Sandia National Laboratory for three years and is a frequent consultant and commentator to national and international media on terrorism, the war in Afghanistan and the war in Iraq. He has a solid record of publication in professional journals and books.
