Dr. Selmo Cikotic

The Marshall Center has named Minister of Defense Dr. Selmo Cikotic from Bosnia and Herzegovina (BiH) as featured Graduate of the Month for Sep 2009.

Dr. Cikotic was appointed Minister of Defense in 2007 after retiring from the army in 2004 as Brigadier. Dr. Cikotic began his army career in the education center in Zadar, Croatia after attending both military school in Serbia and military academy in Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia. In 1992 he became a member of the Army of the Republic of BiH and in 1994 was posted to the United States as their defense and military attaché. Upon his return he became the head of the Doctrine, Training and Education Division, Joint Command. He went on to hold the Chief of Cabinet position as well as Deputy Commander and then Commander of the 1st Corp in his military career.

Dr. Cikotic attended SES 2000-4 when he was the Deputy Commander of 1st Corp, but has since returned to the Marshall Center as a guest panelist on the first SSTAR course in March 2008. Remarking on his Marshall Center experience, Dr. Cikotic stated that the “concept of a security network as the Marshall Center hallmark has proven to be the most valuable asset,” and went on to emphasize that the contacts he has made through the Marshall Center “has enabled more transparent, productive and frank relationships…”

Minister Cikotic is an active member of the alumni association as an honorary board member and hosted the last alumni association event in Sarajevo this past July. The Marshall Center congratulates Dr. Selmo Cikotic on his selection as Graduate of the Month for Sep 2009.
