Captain Joseph Bell
Director of Business Operations
Navy Captain Joseph E. Bell is the director of Business Operations for the George C. Marshall European Center for Strategic Studies.
Captain Bell’s sea tours included serving in USS W.S.Sims (FF 1059), homeported in Mayport, Fla.; in USS Bunker Hill (CG 52), homeported in Yokosuka, Japan; and as chief engineer in USS Stump (DD 978) in Norfolk, Virginia. He served as the executive officer of USS Hawes (FFG 53) as well as the assistant chief of staff for material and logistics for commander, Carrier Strike Group Seven as part of the John C. Stennis Carrier Strike Group.
His command tour was as the commissioning commanding officer of Naval Coastal Warfare Squadron Five in Imperial Beach, Calif.. While in command, he deployed to Kuwait and served as the force security officer for the U.S. Army in the Port of Ash Shuaybah, and the Kuwait Naval Base, Camp Patriot. He also commanded Combined Task Group 56.5, responsible for all coastal warfare and maritime security personnel in the Arabian Gulf.
His shore tours have included serving in U.S. Pacific Command in Honolulu, Hi. as part of Naval current operations and most recently on the Navy staff in the Surface Warfare Division as the littoral combat ship branch head. In that position, he was responsible for the requirements, resourcing and fleet introduction of the newest Navy combatant ship class.
Captain Bell is a graduate of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute with a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering. He also graduated from the Naval Post Graduate School with a master of science degree in mechanical engineering; and the U.S. Naval War College with a master of arts degree in national security and strategic studies.
