Lt. Gen. (ret.) Keith W. Dayton is director, George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. He is responsible for orchestrating resident courses, outreach programs and an international and interagency network of more than 8,000 government officials throughout Europe, Eurasia, Central Asia and South East Europe in fields of international security studies, defense and foreign affairs. The Marshall Center is a German-American partnership organization dedicated to advancing security sector reform, capacity building and harmonizing views on common security challenges.

Douglas Griffiths, Ambassador

Ambassador Douglas Griffiths is the Associate Director for International Liaison for the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies.

Ambassador Griffiths joined the Foreign Service in 1988 and has served in Quebec City, Canada, Lisbon, Portugal, and Maputo, Mozambique before returning to Washington, D.C. Upon completion of the Department of State’s nine-month economic course, Ambassador Griffiths worked on the South Africa desk during that country’s transition to democracy.

Andrew A. Michta holds a Ph.D. in international relations from the Johns Hopkins University. His areas of expertise are international security, NATO, and European politics and security, with a special focus on Central Europe and the Baltic States.

Prior to coming to the Marshall Center he was Professor of National Security Affairs at the U.S. Naval War College, an Adjunct Fellow at the Center for Strategic and International Studies (Europe Program) and an affiliate of the Minda de Gunzburg Center for European Studies at Harvard University.  From 1988-2015 he was the M.W. "Rick" Steinke is the Associate Dean of Marshall Center's College of International and Security Studies, where he is responsible for College management, including operations, planning, personnel, course development and evaluations, international engagement and administration, as well as the Dean’s principal advisor on strategic direction. Sven Bernhard Gareis, Ph.D

Sven Bernhard Gareis became German deputy dean at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in May 2011.  Prior to this assignment he was deputy head of the faculty of humanities and social sciences at the Fuehrungsakademie der Bundeswehr (German Armed Forcers General Staff College) in Hamburg for five years.

Since 2007 he has been teaching as a professor of political science at the Westfaelische Wilhelms-Universitaet in Muenster/North Rhine-Westphalia. As a visiting professor he taught at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem and at the Tamkang University in Taipei/Taiwan.

Dean L. Dwigans is the Deputy Director and Chief of Operations, Non-Resident Programs for the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies. Keith L. Wert is the director of the Partner Language Training Center Europe at the George C. Marshall European Center for Security Studies in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, Germany.
