Language: English and Russian

Frequency: SRS is held once a year.

Objectives:

  • Analyze current security crises
  • Understand impact on regional security
  • Identify patterns of conflict management
  • Consider the gender dimensions of conflict & conflict management
  • Practice negotiation techniques

Course Director: Col. (GS) Jörg Kunze

Deputy Directors: Dr. Petra Weyland and U.S. Army Col. John H. Knightstep

Class Composition/demographics: 60 participants from 25 countries; 32 are military and 28 are civilian; and, 45 males and 15 females. There are 45 English language speakers, eight Russian language speakers, and six English and Russian language speakers. Combatant Commands represented: two from U.S. Africa Command; five from U.S. Central Command; 36 from U.S. European Command; and, four from U.S. Pacific Command.

Origins: This is the sixth iteration of this resident program at the Marshall Center. The seminar began in 2013.
